A wonderful animated short film for all you out there who might have a little extra time on your hands this week. The recipient of the 2012 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a beautiful story about the healing power of books. In this allegorical tale, Mr. Lessmore is whisked off to a world in which the books care for those who care for them, and through his time there learns the transformative power of storytelling. Created by award-winning author/illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg, this short is both gorgeously rendered and perfectly timed (the directors drew upon the techniques of silent Hollywood for the pacing of the film, to great effect). It is a perfect way to escape a cold winter’s day for a few moments, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
